I'm wondering who's stances surprised Soon too. I do agree that the Sparkbomb members weren't given a choice for you all to come here, but you were given a choice to come. Shattered would say "non of you were active so it doesn't count". But I counter that with neither was he and the staff was terrible in the "get stuff done" side of things. Our member base was inactive because the staff was inactive. You need active leadership for an active member base.

It might be a little late for that. We just need to slather this whole thread up in lubricant so friction burns don't come from all that rubbing.

...

That's the most disturbing thing I've heard all day. And I'm on the Dabney Hovse email list, so I see disturbing things. Horrible, horrible things.

EDIT: Re-read the post and saw that it said 'friction burns' rather than 'friction bums'. Which makes it far, far less disturbing.

I still don't really understand how something so simple as a name change could be considered offensive. I can understand how it would make one uncomfortable... but offensive it ain't.

Even then, still more upsides than down. Happy08.png
Liz
Would you have liked it if a bunch of people showed up on X-evo, uninvited, declared that they were merging with you, demanded a bunch of rule and policy changes and their own forum, and that you change the name of your forum to suit their tastes?

I ask this question of anyone who wonders why us older folk are a touch... riled up over the matter. We have a lot of strong attachment to this place for many reasons. And if you consider it such a simple matter, why do you care so much that it is changed?
Air
Well you see, if someone showed up at our doorstep and had been through as much as most (I was MIA) of the X-Evo crew had been through I'm sure we would be more than willing to try and be accommodating. The only members I can think of that wouldn't are no longer part of our forums.

If this situation was in reverse and it was you merging with us after being hacked repeatedly and then sent to a much larger forum who treated all of the newcomers like trash we wouldn't be bickering over such a silly matter as a name. A name.

If this place was your religion, or your personal views, or your life story I would understand how it would be offensive for us to come in and tweak the rules a bit, make some expansions (those two at least being for the better) and change the name, but it's not. It's a forum, and to be blunt a small name change isn't going to alter it to the point where it's not a forum, neither will some additions to the rules, or some additions to increase activity.

In other words unless you take up worshiping Sparkbomb I doubt this name change will drastically alter your life, and if it does so at all it certainly won't be in a negative fashion.

If this sounds like an angry response I assure you it's not. I'm not posting in this thread to make waves, just riding off the ones already made. I'm not angry with anyone, so try to not get angry at me.

<3
Myooze
Maybe I wouldn't have liked it in the beginning, but I don't see any reason why I couldn't adjust to it. Like I said. I can see how one would be uncomfortable with a sudden change, but I still don't see how it is considered offensive.

Are we truly uninvited? Are we not welcome here? Why are you so quick to decline a name change? Would you leave this community if you had to see "Sparkbomb Evolution" every time you opened your browser? Or would you learn to cope with it and eventually move on?

I never stated whether I cared if it was changed or not. I only provided arguments for the name change with reason so that Sparkbombers might better understand our side of the situation. A merge is a unity, not a takeover (and I think our members know plenty about that by now). When it comes to "simple matters" such as name changes, my personal opinions are fairly neutral. Granted my arguments were one-sided, but I honestly don't see any downfall to a forum name change. At worst, Sparkbombers would feel a bit uneasy and a little relenting at first, but you'd probably get over it relatively quickly. In the end, the decision is up to the staff, however and my opinions still stand.

(EDIT: Grr, Airbreaker got to it before me XD)

X-Evolution - The boards were created around the time that the Digimon Chronicle stuff started coming out. If you think about layouts from way back when, you'd remember a couple featuring GreymonX in the banner up top. X-Evolution has always been the name of the boards. The name is a staple.

Pluses:
- Having our title incorporated with Sparkbomb title would at least make X-Evoers feel a little closer to home and I think this is something we need right now. I get the vibe that a few may be feeling a bit isolated.
- A merged title represents a unity.
- The name itself "Sparkbomb Evolution" indicates a community that is moving forward.
- It sounds cool.

Downsides:
- There are none.
*

Downsides:
- It's a meaningless word salad title that doesn't sound cool at all.

And to be perfectly honest, I do consider you uninvited on my part, but, I'm rather in the minority on that. Rather, I see you guys like any other group of folks joining this forum, and don't see any need to give you special treatment. But I have rather different views then most. But it's worth considering that, again, you guys were given an option to come and join. We were just told, after it was done, 'oh, yeah, there's an entirely separate forum merging with yours, we're going to go change a whole bunch of stuff and you guys get no say in it, kthxbai'.

And if you can't understand what the name means to us, or that the name even has meaning to us...

I'll play this argument form a different angle. If the name's so unimportant, would you be bothered if it wasn't changed? If it's such a small and meaningless thing, why do it if it'll obviously upset a small pocket of folks who've been here for a long time, to appease a group that may not particularly care one way or the other?

Like I said in my own random way before those that truly wish to keep X-evo alive in any manner will keep acting like we did on X-evo. Keep the insanity and we'll always be X-evo. We don't need to upset the hardcore Sb'ers by pushing an issue we don't need all that much. A word added to the title will not make people like Liz and EP accept us.

Deal is they got the same treatment we did when going to WtW only in reverse they just had people show up and demand changes.

We're not "Demanding" anything. >.>; We're just kinda going with the flow. The Staff are the ones calling the shots, not us. That seperate forum was proposed by Rift on the Back-up forums after we elected to merge with the site. Furthermore, we're not demanding that you change your site's name and rule set (well... at least I'm not). I simply think that the name-change would be something to make things... slide into place a bit better for us Evo-members.

But to be honest, no, it's not all that important. If the name remains the same, if it changes, I'll still be coming here, because the last remnants of my Internet "Family" are here as well. I visit this forums for the members. Not the name.

Who said you guys get no say? Isn't that what this particular discussion is for? To know how the users feel about the situation? Who knows? The name may not be changed.

Don't think I'm so narrow minded to think that I don't understand where you're coming from. This doesn't mean I can't debate for the other side.

And like I said. My personal opinions are neutral. I can deal either way.

I'm not trying to push your buttons here or anything, I'm simply asking you to cope with change if the switch goes through.

Totally sorry, but that's kinda unnecessary.

I'm keeping my stance on not changing the name. Why do you X-evoians feel it's so important to change it? It's like you guys are trying to make this place your own (Or half your own, whatever). It's incredible the amount of stuff we already changed on this site. Half of the staff is gonna be of us, for one. We got our own forum, we're gonna install a few more for Data Race. Sure, we brought some stuff to them, including the activity, but this IS their ground first, right?

And without the support of the SBer part of the forum, this would simply be an X-evo backup forum, like KY or something, and we all know that wouldn't be active. You can't say this place is active mainly because of us, and I'm not implying that's what you're saying, that's wouldn't be true. Half of the votes in this thread were of SBers.

Basically, I don't see why the X-evoers voting for the name change find it so important to change it. It shouldn't be.
Air
Well Lixy-poo, do you mind if I call you Lixy-poo?

If you take a look at most of the posts made here by said "X-evoers", the general consensus is we think it would be a swell change, however we're not pressing the matter very forcefully. No big deal is being made, ole' chap, just some back and forth hoopla.

I have one last thing to post that came to me after I was playing L2 at 6 in the morning today...

I was in a alliance called Blackeagle. I'm in a clan called HiddenDrive. well my clan was asked to change it's name to a more fitting title for the alliance of another clan. that pronouced that if we didn't we'd be warred and pk'd non-stop. With me being in the meeting with my clan leader, and thee others high in place in clan. we told them we would discuss it with our clan. Our clan decided we would fight the server's strongest clan to keep our clan name. because we were a SET clan with a purpose. Also speaking later that day we created a new allaince with a fairly new clan. We called the alliance Hiddentactics. the other clan was called TacticalSquad. We developed onto our clan when we added the allance.I decided that If I would fight that hard for a Clan name that showed who we were I can respect the Sb'ers. I vote Sparkbomb. Just plain Sparkbomb. Our sub forum can be X-evo, the place where we keep our Data race and all that relating to us. :/?
But Sparkbomb is the history of this site. our subforum is the clan added to the alliance. Alliance- Sparkbomb. Clans- SB, X-evo.

Edit: garrrrhhhh I hate my mind... It finally understand after I finally caught up sleep. abnd posted was edited for gammar.

I'm assuming that Soon will be having the Data Race category aptly named Data Race. And the rest of the forum structure won't really allow for a particular forum to be named X-Evo. (The new forum structure will add several forums.) The planned Digimon forum could be named X-Evo, though that would be a tad odd. Perhaps Soon or Rex has a thought on this? Right now I'm not really seeing it as a possibility.
Red
I've come to my decision.

The fact is we are Sparkbomb. They were X-Evo. Werewolf is what we did, Data-Race is what they did.

The second must be removed. Leaving us with Sparkbomb : X-Evolution.
X can removed as a mostly useless prefix.

Sparkbomb: Evolution wins.

I vote Sparkbomb : Evolution because there is a lot in a name, and they make up almost half of our forum now.

Honestly, with the responses from Liz and others

Exactly. Forte's a pretty prominent member, actually, even though he's never been active. He's more-or-less in charge of IDB (the community that pretty much spawned Sparkbomb). So I decided to crack the Mega Man joke.

Sparkbomb.com, without the X. There's bound to be far more confusion with the url if the forum is named Sparkbomb X than Sparkbomb: Evolution (with or without the colon).

I think the name should stay the same "Werewolf Forums" and all. A name change isn't necessary.

Oh, crap. Now that you mention it ... have I even announced that in any way, shape or form yet? I've told a few people in private, but... I might not have revealed it openly yet.

Whoops. ^_^;

Yeah, I'm opening more than one Journey here. Personally, I'd quite like to drop Data Race and just throw it into the mix with the rest of the games (since it's only a run-of-the-mill game these days), but I doubt the DR fanboys would listen to reason if I told them that there are even better games waiting for them. So ... it's going to have to be Data Race and one other. The second will be chosen by you guys (from quite an extensive list, too).

It probably won't be one of the ones that I'm hoping to run here, either. Xo

Random thought:
Since Sparkbomb Evolution has been found to be so controversial - maybe a more neutral name, whilst still showing progression to a higher state, wouls be worth considering? I was thinking maybe SparkBomb: Zero Two? What do you think? I know it's a bit last-minute to be throwing such suggestions in the ring - but better late than never, eh? Happy08.png

So yeah - 'Sparkbomb' to keep the identity of the site true, and 'Zero Two' to show progress, and to get over the hurdle of 'Evolution' being controversial amongst the regulars...

Thoughts? *pulls out ice-cream scoop*
