Prologue

In the beginning, the battle between the supreme good and the supreme evil lasted throughout the ages, destroying the threads of existence itself, and ultimately leaving the fabrics of space and time torn forever. Stalemate was realized between the two beings, as the light sealed itself with the dark just beyond reach of the plane of existence known by the sentient beings that call themselves humans.

However, the existence of humans, as well as that of everything else, was brought about by the residue left behind by the light and dark. A focal point, known as the Matrix, was responsible in creating everything that is known now, eons after the passing of that age.

The destruction did not leave the plane of existence void of life, for there was one race that survived the conflict, if only a small handful of them. Godlings is an apt name for them, as their power exceeded anything possible today. Too few of them remained to care for the Matrix properly, but their extinction sealed the hopes and promise of the future as well as the birth of many new races.

On the planet the Godlings once held, the Matrix resides. Under the force of the elements, the Temple it was left in has been long buried. Supposing a race could manage to reach its depths, the likelihood of it being unearthed has always been slim at best. Until recently, the fear has not arisen that its dormant powers might be used once again.

Earth, one of the few planets with a large source of water, is a planet on the opposite end of the galaxy from the planet housing the Matrix. Surprise though it was that beings upon Earth should stumble across the Matrix, their naivety would be considered a blessing, preventing them from moving the Matrix from its place in the Foundation of Hope.

Yet the humans were not the ones to learn of the great device. Many others exist on Earth as well. These include demons, elementals, werewolves, vampires, gargoyles, as well as other beasts and creatures without number. The particular entity that knew of the Matrix and used all of his power in the attempt to find it has been in exile from his world for eons. That world has also been forgotten over time. Yet as fortune would have it, the Matrix did not fall into his hands.

However, the majority of humans remain ignorant to the great beings that exist with them on their world. Except for a small handful, none even suspect that they could be overthrown as easily as a star would engulf anything approaching too near. These innocents will likely be among the first to die, but it has been prophesied that several among them will provide the single chance at salvation.

It is a foolish notion to question that the time of their demise is drawing near. The Sparks that have hailed down, once part of the great Matrix itself, are a looming premonition of the legends nearly forgotten. The humans naively use them as a form of currency, purchasing and using the creations that have been invented by their greatest enemies. Fate, however, decreed that only a small handful of humans have found them thus far. How long this will last, or if the secret and dangers will escape the island, will only be revealed as the events told in detail to a generation long dead are made manifest before the eyes of humanity.
