Full Version: Roles

Well, I'd like to make a list of roles (and what they do too, obviously) and save it for future reference, but I know very little roles apart for those Shaft and Rex already mentionned to me. Secret powers would also be nice to know, if you've got some in mind.

It'd be a great help for future games.
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Rexozord plans to outline many basic roles once he gets around to finishing his huge WW game database thing he started before he passed his game off to Traj.
Loki
There is a website that tells you the basic roles but I forget what it was...

When I had my first game at werewolf, Khaled had a guide back then. It was long and I never really did understood much, but it helped. I don't think its there anymore and the new players are really lacking the information they need.

So here are the three basic roles you see in traditional games:

Werewolf/Mafia(baddie)
Team of two or more.
Kill 1 player per night.

Dreamer/Detective(innocent)
Determine whether someone is a werewolf or not once per night.

Innocent/Villager
No powers.

More Roles that can be included:

Innocent Roles

Protectors
Protect a player for the night. Attacks are negated to that player. Can or cannot protect yourself.

Healers/Resurrectors/Necromancers
Bring back 1 player from the dead once per night. Usually this role is limited in the number of total use.

Vigilante
You're an innocent but can kill 1 player per night. Usually this role is limited in the number of total use.

Baddie Roles

One man team
You're on your own team and can kill 1 player per night.

Vampire
Similar to OMTs, you're on your own team and can kill 1 player per night. If your victims uses their power on you that night, they get converted to your team.

Some hosts decide just to have a conversion power for 100% success.

Misc.l
Roles that can be on the side of innocents or baddies.

Copy Cat
Have the power to copy another player's role. This can be permanent or once a night.

Heirs
Once a certain player dies with a role that is designated to have a heir, you inherit that role.

Trapper
Stop a player from using any ability once per night(limited or not).

Bombers/Terrorists
Any night, the bomber can do a suicide attack against another player to kill yourself and the other. Variant: The bomber cannot be killed by the werewolves and whoever attacks the bomber at night will die with the bomber.

Framer
Framer's role is returned innocent if dreamed upon. Each night framers can make an innocent seem like a baddie. The dreamer cannot see through this. Variant: Baddie would seem to be innocents.

Well, I can probably think of more roles, but I'm a little tired at this point.
I don't think knowing these roles will help much in Trajectory's game because he is hosting a non-traditional game...

Pretty much, his game is freeform (more than one large team) and most roles are different (No plain innocents). It might seem kinda confusing but I just go with it lol. I don't even know whats going on since everything seems unpredictable.

But you can still see some basic roles in his game too. So there you go.
Lixyl
Awesome, thanks a lot, Loki! I really appreciate it ^_^
Shattered Rift
When was the last time we saw a Framer in a game here or at IDB?

As a side note to Loki's post: Dreamers/Protectors can generally only dream/protect against one type or baddie (werewolf or mafia).

I can't recall the proper name for this pair of roles, but Free Masons/Blood Brothers are the two names coming to mind. They're two innocents that both know about each other from the start of the game and generally can't be converted. (Alternatively, if one is converted, both are converted.) Sometimes the lives of the two may be tied together.

Mayor: Can stop or redirect one nightly execution.

There's also a variant(?) on the bomber that's an OMT. He plants a bomb on one person each night, and then one night may set off all set bombs. (I think the first time we saw this it was a Poisoner, but that doesn't seem entirely right.)

Just clarifying a few things here and there. Rezzers are almost never called Healers. Healers almost exclusively refer to Protectors, or a variant thereof.

Role Stealers are typically very complicated roles. Especially since it lets you know another person's complete role.

Also note that a lot of the names Loki used were not general names. For instance, what he refers to as a Copy Cat is archtypically known as a Role Stealer. Much more descriptive. Wink03.png

Randomness (another Werewolf forum several of us are or were members at) put together a wiki a couple years back with common types of roles. It might be worth taking a look at. (Although, there have tended to be subtle differences in werewolf games here.)

I just thought up a crazy role idea... that I don't think has been done before. It would be a neutral role with the following power.

Every night they can mark one person. That person is opt out. What I mean by that is at the end of WW games if there are equal number of baddies as innocents, the baddies win the game. With this role it would not count the ones marked. So lets say there are 3 baddies, out of 10 people. Now add in this role that makes 4, so if 3 people had been marked, the baddies would win the game.
Exiled Phoenix
That sounds like the pyro/bomb planter roles.
Zen
It's similar, but it's more a neutral that works with baddies, but doesn't discriminate against them. The Planter role is it's own team.
Rexozord
The problem with the role is that it has no justification for being neutral. Its power exclusively helps baddies. Not to mention the fact that it essentially gives the baddies an extra kill as far as determining maximum/minimum game length. ...I don't like it.

Well now, I was wondering if there are any roles out there that haven't been seen on Sparkbomb, ever or in a long while... that you'd like to see in a game. This is both for inspiration on roles for my game, and for other MCs.
Zen
Not what I was looking for, I have that saved in a Bookmark, I was interested in Roles people want to see on Sparkbomb, and even unique roles (such as 3 I have in my game).
chicken
Somebody should put in a Poisoner sometime. It's been a long time since I saw that role used.
LBZ
poisoner? I don't think i've heard about that role. what's the quirk?
Zen
The Poisoner has Delayed kills, it can be a baddie, OMT, or neutral.
chicken
No. Or perhaps there was some game on Sparkbomb that had a role like that, but the traditional (and once fairly common) Poisoner role is not that. Rather, it's an OMT that places poison on one player every night. All those who target that player (or sometimes not all) die. If no one targets that player then they die.

Here's an example of the role from a game NPM ran years and years ago. Actually this reminds me that the role was called Malicious Poisoner, not just Poisoner. Incidentally, the Werewiki seems to be screwed up. This role should definitely be in there, and I'm pretty sure it once was... I think other roles have been deleted that should be there as well.

QUOTE
Malicious Poisoner

You are a one-person baddie team. Every night, you can submit the name of a person you wish to poison (submit a list 4 persons). Your role works this way:

1. If anyone else has that person on top of their list to target that night, the poison will be transferred to the players targeting that person and they will all be poisoned to death if not otherwise protected by any other means. (Shields do apply). Being in second or third place on the list doesn't count.

For example, if you wish to plant the poison on A, while the healer, B and the spokeswolf, C, have A on top of their target lists, both B and C would die (if not protected somehow). The original target A would not die. However, if no one targets A as first on their list, then only A would die. If none of the persons targeting A die due to shield protection then you do not kill that night. However, if no one is targeting A and A does not die because of shield protection, then I would go to the second person on your list and then you would try to kill the players targeting that person.

2. You can choose to plant the poison on yourself at night. If anyone targets you number one for the night, the poison is transferred to that player or players and they will die instead. However, if no one has you on top of their list, you will be poisoned but will not die. However, due to your illness, you will be unable to poison anyone for 2 day/night cycles.

3. Your list works before others, except any list that switches targets or roles. Your poison is planted and works regardless of whether you or the target are inside or outside since the poison is somewhat slowacting..

5. Once in the game, you can poison one player during the day. I will post the results of your poisoning as soon as I get online. This will work exactly as above in that it will kill anyone targeting that player during the day (except people voting for execution). If none, then it will poison the player. You can not plant this poison on your self. Shields and other forms of protection do apply.

6. You can not be dreamed about. Any dreams about you will fail if you are the sole subject of the dream. The dreamer will be told that he or she did not dream. If others are being dreamed about the dream will be effective for the other players but not for you (the dream will not be told that it failed).

7. Your role and secret powers can not be switched or stolen even if you are dead. Any attempt to do any of these things will result in the choice moving to the next on the list (if there is more than one choice on the list). You can not be converted to another bad guy team.

8. You will gain the unused secret powers of those successfully killed by you.

9. You have an 80% shield. If you plant poison on yourself and no one targets you, your shield may protect you from getting sick but your shield will reduce with the attack.

10. Four times during the game you can go outside during the night. To do this, PM me before 8:00 PM NST that you want to be outside for Night. You can change this choice until 8:00 PM. When you make this choice, if you are inside, you do not leave to go outside until Night begins. If you go outside for the Night you will nonetheless start the morning inside.

Oh, Okay, thanks chicken, that explains alot. Cool role i guess, but that would be pretty complicated.

edit; honestly, i like roles with posting requirements, weather a certain number, or certain things, i dont care.
